They later discovered that a 20-year-old woman from Richmond Heights was experiencing an anxiety attack. She had come to a CPR class but had not completed the online portion beforehand. Paramedics provided assistance, and she was soon stable.

Fraudulent Call at a Doctor’s Office

On July 9, a doctor’s office staff received a suspicious call from someone claiming to be a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. The caller stated that the doctor’s information was found on drug packages seized in New York. He asked the doctor to cancel appointments and return the call from his home for a confidential discussion. The caller also requested that personal documents be sent and accounts opened with specific banks. Recognizing the scam, the staff did not provide any information.

Scam via Text Message on Thornapple Drive

A resident reported being scammed on July 9 after receiving a text message about her Apple ID being used fraudulently. She called the number provided and was told that multiple fraudulent purchases totaling $2,234 had been made. The person claiming to be from the Federal Trade Commission instructed her to withdraw $8,000 and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM. She realized she had been scammed when checking her Apple account and found no evidence of unauthorized activity. Officers advised her to file a report on ic3.gov and with the actual FTC.

Property Damage on Beta Drive

On July 11, a Lyft driver dropped off a rider at a business and then struck a light pole while leaving the property. The employee who was dropped off only knew the driver’s first name from the Lyft app. The business decided to file a claim with Lyft for damages to the light pole, which they estimated at $10,000.

Impaired Driving on SOM Center Road

On July 11, staff at Aladdin’s Eatery reported a man who appeared to be intoxicated and parked erratically. Officers located his vehicle on Sandalwood Drive after observing multiple traffic violations. The 58-year-old man from Mayfield Heights failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI). His breath test result was .276, more than three times the legal limit.

Disturbance on Wilson Mills Road

On July 12, a man and woman got into an argument at Yours Truly after a road rage incident in the parking lot. The woman claimed the man cut her off to take a parking space. Officers confirmed that everything was resolved and the two had separated.

On July 14, a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her car at her workplace and was knocking on the door of her office suite. Officers responded to the medical building and cited a 57-year-old man from Willowick for vehicular trespassing. He was also given a trespass warning. The woman confirmed that nothing was missing or damaged from her car.
