Kate Beckinsale Shattered by Grief as 'Love of Her Life' Mother Judy Loe Passes

Kate Beckinsale has shared the heartbreaking news of her mother Judy Loe’s passing, expressing deep sorrow and describing herself as "paralysed" by grief. Judy, who was 78 years old, had been battling stage four cancer for two years before her death. Her passing marks another devastating loss for Kate, coming just 18 months after the death of her father, Roy.
In a heartfelt message, Kate explained that she is sharing the news not out of choice but because she had to register her mother’s death certificate, which will soon become public. She described the moment of her mother's passing as occurring in her arms on the night of July 15th, following years of immense suffering.
"I have not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet," she wrote. "I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone."
Kate paid tribute to her mother, highlighting the profound impact Judy had on her life. She called her "the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend." She spoke of Judy’s strength, her belief in the goodness of people, and how the world feels dimmer without her.
"She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much, believing in the ultimate good in people," Kate said. "The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly."
She also expressed her deep sorrow, saying, "Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five and I am here. Oh my Mama... I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry."
Kate’s father, Richard Beckinsale, was a well-known actor, famous for his roles in Rising Damp and Porridge. He passed away suddenly at the age of 31 in 1979, leaving a lasting impact on Kate’s life.
Her announcement received an outpouring of support from friends, fans, and fellow celebrities. Many expressed their condolences, with one person writing, "I'm so sorry for your loss… She raised an incredible person." Others offered prayers, while poet Nikita Gill shared, "I am so deeply and profoundly sorry for your loss. Absolutely heartbroken for you. Sending you oceans and oceans of love."
Throughout the years, Kate has often spoken about her close relationship with her mother. She frequently shared updates on Judy’s cancer treatment, including videos of her making her mom smile with playful dance moves in the hospital.
On Mother’s Day in March, Kate celebrated Judy as her "partner in crime," reflecting on the strong bond they shared. She described how her mother had always been by her side, offering guidance, support, and love.
"Any journey you are on, I am on it with you, as you have always been with me," she wrote. "You’ve been mum, dad, second parent to Lily, prohibitor of my being allowed to get bubblegum out of a machine (because it’s common, apparently), partner in crime, teacher of how to lose one’s mind if someone rustles their sweets too loudly in the cinema, best friend, keeper of precious things, including my heart — and my god, we have been through some s**t together."
She concluded with a powerful message of love and admiration: "I love you, I admire you, you occasionally drive me mad as I do you, and I’m here for all of it."
