A New Perspective on Flavor and Collaboration

Joshua Jackson has always been known for his strong opinions, but after years of holding firm to his beliefs, he's now embracing a new perspective. The star of Doctor Odyssey recently sat down to discuss his partnership with Olipop, a prebiotic drink that offers a healthier alternative to traditional sodas. Through this collaboration, Jackson admitted that he had to "come down off [his] high horse" when it came to one specific flavor.

Jackson made the decision to give up soda purely for health reasons, after realizing the amount of sugar, additives, and dyes found in typical soft drinks. He said, "I didn't want to put that stuff into my body." However, he always missed the taste of Dr Pepper. When he discovered Olipop’s Doctor Goodwin flavor, it was a revelation—something he could enjoy without the negative effects of traditional soda. This experience led him to realize that his long-standing anti-cherry cola stance was incorrect. "I actually love cherry cola now," he shared, calling it his new number two favorite.

For those who might think that Olipop can't match the original, Jackson recommends the brand's Orange Cream flavor, which he calls "legitimately excellent." His partnership with Olipop also involved creating a video ad inspired by the iconic celebrity-driven drink ads of the 1990s. Although he couldn’t recall a specific brand or star that influenced him, he wanted to test if he could open a can with one hand, just like someone on TV. "And it turns out, I am," he said proudly.

Working on the campaign also sparked some creative thinking for Jackson. When asked about creating a signature flavor, he initially felt stressed about the question. Eventually, he came up with a unique idea: a 7Up or Sprite-style beverage with a "super tart lemon lime" base called "The Spinal Tap." The name is based on his character, Dr. Death, and he joked about the heavy Dr. Death theme in the campaign.

Jackson also reflected on his past roles, imagining how they might fit into different fictional universes. He mentioned that his character Luke from The Skulls would have been a good fit for the Fringe team due to his paranoia and naivety. Meanwhile, he said that Doctor Odyssey’s Dr. Bankman would be the best equipped to solve any case, thanks to his "very good clinical thinking" and ability to "think outside the box."

Jackson’s journey with Olipop not only changed his opinion on a particular flavor but also reminded him of the value of staying open-minded. His willingness to admit he was wrong and embrace new experiences highlights the importance of personal growth and evolution.
